Yet More Problems with Next Windows Release

Gates: Longhorn changed to make deadlines | Newsmakers | CNET News.com

Here is a recent article telling of the rescheduled release of Longhorn, the next major version of the Windows OS. Am I surprised by the delay? No, not at all. It's typical of Microsoft. They claim they had to work on Windows XP SP2, and that is one reason for the delay. True, they did have to do that and I'm not saying what they do is easy, it's certainly not... but if they just took security seriously in the first place, then they would not have to apply one band aid after another to their OS. (Note: September 1st it was reported that about 10% of those installing SP2 had some major problems with it. More Info Here)

Oh, and the "new features" we heard about in Longhorn - what's left? They are taking longer to release it and now they are no longer planning to include the full implementation of WinFS, "an ambitious file system geared toward letting users search through all of their files at once."
